Favorite Five: Birth Podcasts

Favorite Five: Birth Podcasts

(updated) Welcome to our first Favorite Five post! We’ve rounded them up our fave five birth podcasts for your edification and listening pleasure. You can find each of them through their websites or on your favorite podcast service.

1 BIRTHFUL

The Birthful podcast and host Adriana Lozada welcomes a different maternity, birth, and early parenting professional each episode to discuss the choices that matter most to new and expecting parents. Guests include Pam England, Dr. Sarah Buckley, Penny Simkin, Gena Kirby and topics range from healthy pregnancy to family sleep support, baby-lead weaning and elimination communication, and taking care of yourself postpartum. Hands down, one of our favorites.

2 BIRTH KWEENS

Everything you love about “My Favorite Murder” but for birth instead of true crime. Each episode with Ali and Karly is like a hang with your besties. They have lots of thoughtful guests but my favorites are the episodes with just Karly and Ali. Relatable as hell. Also, you’ve now been warned about the copious giggles.

3 BIRTH STORIES IN COLOR and THE BIRTH HOUR

If you love birth stories as much as we do, you’re going to love these, where each of the stories is different and empowering in its own unique way. We’ve listened to stories of peaceful hypnobirths, graceful waterbirths, powerful VBACs to gentle cesareans, sometimes all in the same episode! Premie births, post dates, Canadian births, home, hospital and birth center births — These podcasts have it all.

4. EVIDENCE BASED BIRTH

Y’all know we’re big fans of Rebecca Rekker and the Evidence Based Birth website and her podcast is no different. Rebecca takes all the current studies and breaks them down, strips away  the medical jargon and tells us what they really meant for us and our babies.

5 MAGAMAMA

No, not that MAGA – Maga is the Brazilian word for sorceress. While not strictly birth related Kimberly Ann Johnson’s podcast makes it to our list on the bucket loads of empowerment she drops every episode. This one covers the staggeringly wide scope of birth, parenting, sexuality, and mental, spiritual and emotional wholeness.

BONUS: WELL ADJUSTED MAMA

Perfect for families who are interested in learning more about alternative medicine and holistic health. Maternity/pediatric chiropractor and mother Dr. Laura Brayton welcomes guests from across the spectrum of healthy pregnancy, birth and parenting including a special focus on nutrition and optimal hormonal balance.
